The 6th Annual Autism Society of East Tennessee/Breakthrough Golf Tournament was held on Monday, September 24, 2007. To better accommodate golfers, we held two start times at 8 AM and 1:30 PM. The weather cooperated, and we had a day of fun and friendly competition. Through the efforts of our generous sponsors and the successful auction, we raised over $51,000. All funds raised will go to the Autism Society of America- East Tennessee Chapter and Breakthrough. Many thanks go out to the hardworking golf committee and all the volunteers. Pictures of this year's tournament are posted in our photo gallery.
In addition, we're proud to announce that our board member and golf committee chairman, John Thomas, was named Golf Tournament Director of the year by Golf News of Tennessee.
"With approx. 600 fund raising and charity events held in the area we honor one person as Tournament Director of the Year. This year's winner is John Thomas director of the Autism Society Golf Classic. Thomas started the tournamnet six years ago and has filled the tournment every year including a double shotgun this year. His devotion to the cause of autism places him among the leaders in fundraising. His ability to earn support from some of the top name businss sponsors speaks volumes for his people skills and abilities.
John is also an accomplised golfer himself with major tournament wins and many trips to the lead group.
John is the director of Wealth Management for Smith/Barney in Knoxville. Watch for promotion of the autism tournament next year, generally held at Willow Creek. You'll see a difference in charity tournament golf."
